The wind howls around me, as I lay shrouded
in my tattered wings. The brittle cold is continuously sapping me of my
strength. I rise to stand and face the insuperable barrier that stands between my
freedom and me. The sky has lightened from deep red to a bleak orange, yet the
wind continues to howl. I feel my throat tighten in preparation to cry again,
yet nothing drops from my eyes. I have no tears left. There is nothing left
inside to give. I hear an unnaturally loud and soul piercing noise, and as I cover
my ears, the sound becomes internal. I am screaming. As my breath runs out, the
screaming ceases, and as if the elements can sense my defeat, the wind gives a
final roar and is silent. I stare up at the sky and wait.
